Recommend Clothes
In Japan, clothes that expose the stomach and shoulders are not recommended. Japanese people often wear T-shirts, long pants, and skirts.
In Japan, there is a traditional uniform called a kimono, and clothing that does not expose much skin has been chosen since ancient times. It’s for safety and also a cultural practice.
The Reason for less Revealing
There are many dangerous insects and animals in Japan. In particular, there are many dangers in the area around Mt. Fuji, which is surrounded by deep forests.
Partly because of old Japanese customs and partly because there are many Buddhists, there is a risk of being bitten by wasps, mosquitoes, and poisonous insects.
Short sleeves are often worn, but insect repellent spray is essential when approaching the forest. Many shrines are located in forests.
Not recommend in Japan
You are free to choose whatever clothes you want, but we do not recommend wearing revealing clothes because there are many Buddhists in Japan and there is a danger of insects and animals.
Japanese people don’t like it when foreigner wear revealing clothes. There is also the risk of being viewed sexually by Japanese people(some dangerous people) who are not used to wearing clothing that reveals a lot of skin.
